two biggest problems: social inequality and environmental destruction. In 1996, Jones co-founded the
Ella Baker Center for Human Rights, which promotes positive alternatives to violence and incarceration. The
center's Books Not Bars campaign has helped reduce California's overall youth prison population by
more than 30 percent. In the aftermath of 2005's Hurricane Katrina, Jones helped to found ColorOfChange.org,
the nation's biggest e-advocacy organization tackling Black issues. Over the past five years, Jones has
also emerged as a national environmental leader. In June 2007, the City of Oakland, CA adopted a proposal from the Ella Baker Center and the Oakland Apollo Alliance to create a "Green Jobs Corps." The
Corps will train youth for eco-friendly "green-collar" jobs. Now the Center is working with the
Business Alliance for Local Living Economies (BALLE) to create the country's first-ever Green Enterprise
Zone, to attract environmentally sound industry to Oakland. At the national level, Jones and the Ella
Baker Center worked with Congress to pass the Green Jobs Act of 2007. That path-breaking, historic
legislation will provide $120 million in funding to train 35,000 people a year in green-collar jobs. Worship
together Join us for the largest annual gathering of Unitarian Universalists joining in worship. The
sermon will be delivered by Rev. Marlin Lavanhar, settled minister of All Souls Unitarian Church in Tulsa,
OK since 2000. Rev. Lavanhar became widely recognized within the denomination for his development of
the "Soulful Sundown Service" program in Boston, which reaches out to unchurched young people. He
has spoken frequently on interfaith relations, religious freedom, and on worship for young adults. Members
of the public are welcome. To learn more: General Assembly _Notice of Meeting_ (http://www.uua.org/events/generalassembly/updatesannouncements/14404.shtml) (This comprehensive booklet contains information about traveling to GA, Planned Programming,

The Church of the Larger Fellowship (CLF) The CLF is pleased
to announce that we are creating the Shared Interest Group "CLFSIG-ReligNaturalist."
The email list
will be for group members who experience in nature rather than supernature the source, substance, and evolution of their being, to share conversation, insights, opinions and experiences. A Religious Naturalist may identify as a theist,
a nontheist, or anything in between, but acknowledges nature as intrinsically valuable; experiences awe and wonder
in the natural order; and embraces practices which further planetary sustainability.
If you are interested
in being part of this group please contact our minister for lifespan learning, Lynn Ungar, at lungar@uua.org. Please include your full name as well as your email address, and DO NOT HIT REPLY TO THIS MESSAGE
AS YOUR REPLY WILL GO TO THE WRONG PLACE. The Gulf Coast Unitarian Universalist
Fellowship is a member congregation of CLF and as such, we have access to all these resources including KidTalk and RE Express.
Let Rev. Susan know if you would like more information on receiving any CLF materials. CLF membership offers you and your
children UU spirituality, education, and resources 24/7. Our membership also brings Unitarian Universalism to isolated
UUs all over the world. For information about KidTalk go to: www.clfuu.org/kidtalk/2008/02/index.html For more information about The Church of the Larger Fellowship and its many resources:

Upcoming Services
Sunday, April 6th: Flower Communion Rev. Susan Karlson This Sunday
we’ll hold a uniquely Unitarian Universalist ritual known as a Flower Ceremony. Norbert Capek was a Unitarian minister
from the Czech Republic who originated the Flower Ceremony while his wife, Maja, brought it to the United States. See Mississippi
Minister’s Musings for more background on the symbolism of this beautiful ritual. Please bring a flower from your garden,
the roadside or store (if you can’t bring a flower, please don’t worry-- we’ll have plenty on hand). We
will create a Community Bouquet, symbolizing the unique beauty each person brings to this religious community and what we
take away from one another. At the end of the service, each person will leave with a different flower than the one you brought—a
symbol of the meaningful cross-pollination we enjoy here. We’ll also begin the service with a lovely dvd by Wilfred
Jones, a mixture of flowers and music. First Sunday potluck follows the service and Annual Meeting with election of the
new Board members and officers and proposed Bylaws Amendment
Sunday, April 13, The
Cost of Iraq: Who Pays the Price? Rev. Susan Karlson "A nation that continues
year after year to spend more money on military defense than on programs of social uplift is approaching spiritual death."
